I saw my old best friend from Dental School whom I have never seen for 12 years!!!

It was so excited to see her and her husband in Florida when we came to visit. Our flight was delayed 2 hours and she had a dinner to attend back in Miami so I only saw her for like 15-20 minutes... we also had a meeting with someone that afternoon...  wish it was longer...

You look so pretty, Linda. It was like a dream... and we love your husband!!!

My kids love them, Ammar loves the Godiva Linda gave us (he-he) and Nadia loves the chocolate and the easter lollipops! Thanks so much!!!

Today is the first day of Spring....

It's snowing!!! arghhhh &*$&#&*$()#
The snow almost melted all.. now it's snowing again? We have been having snow since THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!

We are leaving tomorrow to Florida... yay! Thanks God.. and I am done with this weather.
Study!!!

How hard it is to sit on your bump and study contently!!! We will have our vacation soon to Florida, tomorrow we are leaving. I packed all the kids stuffs and mine, all set. Ammar still have his undone. We have been so sick, Aidan, me, and Nadia. On and off, it comes and goes in a short period of time. I am on antibiotic, so is Aidan. I felt good yesterday and I paged my PCP to tell him how much I appreciate his help treated me as a VIP patient. Today... I feel miserable again... allergies!!! Ugh... spring time is here... pollens!!!! I woke up this morning and found my eyes were puffy and full of stuff.. red... heavy... makes you just want to sleep having this eyes condition.

For the last 2 weeks,  my dear friend, Lisa have been encourage me to study and study by sending me e-mails every day... she really is a wonderful friend..
I also have gotten calls from my friends, even someone I have not met, just talked on the phone, to study and don't forget to study.... the most recent one, I talked to my ex-beau and he asked me if I was going to go to school again.. and I said "I am!".... Yesterday, I got my sitter and took her and Aidan to Urban Toddler and I sat down at their cafe and studied. Talked to one Korean Mom and she mentioned about me studying and how much she look up for what I did with 2 kids in the house. It is hard to study ... really....

Thank you all.... I really appreciate it..... that makes me still have the strong will to study, even just an hour a day!!! Aim high!!!!

Lisa.. Love you much!!!! Please don't stop reminding me about studying....

I am sick.... sick... ugh!!!

Yesterday I got asthma attack, it got better during the day, then at night, I had chills, high fever of 103F. I coughed all night long. Nadia woke up crying, she had muscle spasms on her legs. Ammar sent her back to bed. Aidan cried at night, we let him fall asleep again.
I woke up so restless this morning. My right chest is hurting so much, sharp pain, esp. when I breath in. I have short breaths.
Ammar called my primary care, Dr. Gradwohl in the morning and he asked me to come to his office. I got x-ray done because both ammar and him suspected me having pneumonia. I went to bldg 9 to get x-ray. Came back to bldg 3 to see Dr. Gradwohl again, he said I had no pneumonia. He gave me prednisone and antibiotic z-pack.
I am still amazed how the u of Michigan hospital system was awesome. I remember when I got my chest x-ray done, I had to wait a long time for them to read and sent back to the doctor.. within minutes from x-rays done, my doctor could see it right away, on-line.

I went home, went to pharmacy on the way back. I beeped Ammar .. then someone called me with U of Mich number.. I thought it was Ammar, no, it was Dr. Gradwohl. He told me that he got another report from the radiologist.. that I HAVE pneumonia, very very early sign and he told me if I got more pain or things are not getting better to call him again, the same drugs so he doesn't have to change anything.

I got home, Ammar called, Dr. Gradwohl just called him and told him about me... he said not to worry, this might not be a real pneumonia, maybe because I got asthma, I am so prone to the lung disease. Ammar said he would give me extra z-pack if things are not getting better.

Okay... now... I feel so blessed that I have someone who cares so much, I didn't have to call the Primary Care office, to talk to someone about what happened with me... blah blah... Ammar right away called my Primary care, talked about me, and everything is taken care of.
I sent Aidan today for school, so I could get a rest.

I want to go to sleep now.... I am so tired and weak.... I didn't sleep good last night.

Finally after a long wait... yes, Ammar has been living in this country for 13 years! He finally received his welcome letter (yes, the security check from FBI came back after over a year.... ) and we received the real card in the mail 3 days after. No more advanced parole, no more reporting to the immigration at the airport, no more EAC cards, and no more hassle. Yay!
Congratulations, My love!!!

We celebrated Nadia's birthday party and Auntie Lisa and Uncle Bill drove all the way from Bay City to Ann Arbor just to attend the kids' party... we made them stay for dinner and had a last minute dinner after putting the kids to bed earlier and had our "adult" dinner together. It was so nice and the food, even though it was really last minutes, (you are a marvelous cook, Ammar), all tasted so yummy!.
Lisa and Bill ended up staying one night because we chatted and chatted.. and it was 11 pm and it was too late to go home.

I love someone
Someone I got from my prayer
He came to my life as one
Honest, kind, the best so far

We are blessed with our family
One daughter one son
Time is so precious as a family
Nothing should be regret or undone

God, Thank you so much for your blessings
I can't ask for more, my family is so precious
Everyone is so happy, content, ready for the new adventures

Bliss in Life.... Alhamdulillah

(I usually hate to write poems, but I just feel like it today. The last poem I wrote when I had to at the elementary school, that was it, and it was not even in English....)

Me and my kids, 1 year old and almost 4 year old.

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

I love you, Dad.

Today, is a 14 years anniversary of my father's death. I still remember every single second of that the time God took his life away. The only one who was not there was my older sister who was in the States at that time. She came home right after and missed the funeral by one day.

God, life is so fragile, human being is so fragile. After all the bad things happened on Sunday, we should thank God more for every single thing we have, children, job, life, friends, house, air we breath every day, food, and pray more than usual.

Tomorrow Aidan will be 1 year old and a special birthday wish for my sister, Ezzy, who just had a birthday on the 18th, a day before my father's death. It is always hard for her during her birthday, she is a blessed woman, she finished her ENT specialist not long ago, has 3 beautiful kids, great parents in law, life to the fullest, but I don't know that God planned to have her birthday surrounded by the death of her loved ones. Ardi, her husband passed away 3 days before her birthday, it has been 5 years now, and our father passed away a day after her birthday, and our grandma passed away a year ago on the 23rd.

One thing I know for sure, that she is so blessed in her life, every one loves and cares about her, and she counts her blessings every day.

Dear all our wonderful friends,

Me and my family would like to thank all of you for making Aidan's first birthday party a superb and enjoyable party. It was really nice to see all of you coming and give blessing for our little boy.

We also had quite a day today, just the day after the party. Ammar went to work at 9 am and I went to the basement to check on birthday stuff down, I found a huge leak on one of the corner of the basement (it was raining outside and the snow were melting), I found out it was a leak from the roof, then I went upstairs to get Aidan and beep Ammar to tell about what happened, at the same time Aidan was vomiting, God knows what he found on the floor and ate, then choked.
Ammar called right away with a bad news : "He flipped the car on the road, only 5 miles away from our house on North Territorial Road", I ended up calling our neighbor to keep an eye on the kids, while I was chasing him to where the accident happened. I saw the car, on the side of the road (ditch), facing me... the car was totally damaged on the driver side, the back window shattered, the front bumper was damaged, and both doors where heavily damaged as the car turned 1.5  times, dragged the car sideways and hit 2 mailboxes until finally stopped facing backward.
Thank you God, Ammar is okay, his glasses fell off, and his back was hurt, but he is okay.

After got towed and waiting for the police to come, he managed to drive back home (forget about going to work then), and we dealt with the leak in the basement, the builder came to see what happened, and he promised to fix it.

Thank you God for everything, and everyone is safe despite of the whole ordeal today, we cancelled all our plans today and just rest at home.

We are asking your blessings again, and thank you all to be our best friends/families.

PS: For lisa, I can't thank you enough for all your help, without your help, the party will not be ready on time. Sue, thank you so much for taking the pictures at the party.

Love,
sari

It was Sunday morning, the temperature went up a bit and we had slightly rain, the snow turned into ice, the terrible winter road condition in Michigan, made Ammar had accident on the way to work. He spins 1.5 times and stopped on the side of the road almost turn backwards completely. He is okay, and God Bless all of us, life is so fragile and you should really appreciate life to the fullest. He canceled work and went home with me. The kids were watched by our beloved Neighbor, Andrea. Thanks Andrea.
This is a reminder of how lucky we are and we are still protected.

Quote from Nadia : "Daddy has accident on the road and NOW, he has silver car!!!!"

Nothing like seeing my children in the car, buckled up, in my husband's car, driving to go to school, HAPPILY! Aidan used to say bye bye whenever Nadia and Daddy went in the morning, now, he is inside, ready to go... he got so excited, smiling, gleefully waving bye bye, Nadia said bye bye so excitedly and of course, the big guy, too.
I am so blessed to find this wonderful Montessori Program. The kids LOVE it! I usually don't trust anyone, even until now, to give up my kids under someone's care, but I trusted and I feel good and secure to have my kids playing and educated there at this school.
Aidan goes part time, and Nadia goes almost full time. I have special days for Nadia and Aidan to stay at home and have fun with me.

Thursday, February 14, 2008

I have been feeling blue lately. Aidan's turning one on the 20th, and every time I think about it, I recollect the time when Nadia's turning one. We celebrated her birthday one month earlier because we were moving to Michigan, it was one great party. I decorated the house with balloons and we had the house full of people, because it was also a farewell party for all our friends.
Now, he is going to be one, and I so sudden miss my mother so much. She was here on Aidan's birth and I can't believe it has been one year since my mother came to visit.
We supposed to come to Jakarta this year, but I don't think we could do it, we might move again, and we might not.

I spent some afternoon decorating the house. Of course, once Aidan woke up from nap, I couldn't do anything. I managed to clean the kitchen when the sitter came for 2 hours.

I tried to make the party as good as when Nadia turned one. It is hard because again, I have to do everything all by myself. Amora, as usual is busy, he will start his service again this Saturday, the time that we are going to have party.

I talked to my mother and sister today, and it doesn't make it better. I miss them dearly, or is it just winter blues ?

The studying doesn't make any progress lately, as I have been very distracted.

Amora gave me a special gift on the Valentine's day didn't really make me so joyful. I love the present, he is such a wonderful dad and husband, the present is so thoughtful, that's just what I needed, and I think it is so romantic knowing him giving me something which I needed.

Happy Valentine's Day.

If someone asked me : "Do you want to move out of this state ?" I will answer : "I have no saying." The reasons are :
1. The house: I love our house, it's pretty big, huge yard for the kids to play, as big as a soccer field, so Aidan and Nadia can run around, or even drive the car in the back yard, and front yard.
It is big, huge, and sometimes it is a pain to keep it tidy and clean, you can imagine, just putting toys around back to their places, it took me more than an hour.
2. I love the kitchen. I love to cook, and I love huge kitchen.
3. Friends and neighbors. They are just like families to me. It will be so heartbroken (for me and Nadia) if we are leaving.
4. I like Ann Arbor, the heaven for kids, so much to offer for the little ones.
5. Nadia loves the school she is attending, and Aidan is starting to like it, too. I love the school because the kids love it!
6. Ammar loves where he works, he learned so much there at U of Michigan. Go Blue!

The downside :
1. Cold! Cold! Cold! It is too cold here, as much as Nadia loves snow to make snowman, and how beautiful the snow is.. Almost every winter, I am in the bad mood!! At night now, the temperature goes down to 1 degree Fahrenheit (not Celcius!!!!), and during the day, it is around 14-15. I used to like winter and snow when I just started living here in the States because I come from Tropical Country, but after living here for 10 years, I have enough cold!
Now, everytime Fall comes, I started to get depressed! I know the cold will come soon.
Even Ammar who loves his toy (tractor with the snow pusher) started to get annoyed to do the snow plowing every time.

Dilemma!

I wonder, and I believe, that we have to be careful with all our sayings and our acts in our life. I am a believer that we should put ourselves in others' shoes in any act or quotes.
I also a believer that if you are not sure of saying anything, it's better to keep silence. Silence is Gold.
People might have other plans, we can't just crossed over and jump into a conclusion before you asked permission or just plain ask before we have to say anything.

This is just a quote of the day. I have been a believer of this quote, but I have seen the surroundings are still doing it...

Anyway.... I have a great day today. I spent all day with my little girl, cuddling, drawing, study while she is playing, went to lunch, watched her skating lessons, went shopping, and picked up Aidan ... came back home... played with 2 kids, put Aidan to bed, played with Nadia again, and finally I have my own time to just venting about that thing above. Ammar is playing tennis so he will be home late, but since he left from Hollywood, I didn't realize how much I need him and how much I miss him, and I have to admit... I can't live without him.

Flu Shot.

All of us got flu shots, except Amora. He works at the hospital and he should have had flu shot but he refused. I am not a fan of flu shot. I am just not a believer of flu shot, once I got flu shot, I got sick right away, that was when I was living in Manhattan, NYC, I was sick like a puppy for the whole week, body ache, runny nose, coughing, headache, muscle ache, the whole nine yard, which are signs of flu.

Because I have asthma, so I had to have flu shot, so I did.
Aidan got bad cold and cough right after his flu shot when we had vacation in Arizona, Nadia was fine. I was fine.

Last night, I got chills, my husband had to hug me in bed until my chills were gone. I got terrible cough. Everyone, except my husband got sick. Aidan got it so bad that he had his 2nd ear infection.
I got chills again today, I cranked up the heating until 80 Fahrenheit and I still shivered. I put on hot water in the tub, and still shivered. Finally I called my doctor.
He called me back personally and asked me to come at anytime. He knows my husband and he contacts him sometimes for referrals.
It was snow storm, the road was terrible, we all drove 30-35 MPH in the highway! So many accidents.. so slippery. It took me 50 minutes to get to my doctor.
He told me, I didn't need antibiotic, because I GOT FLU!!!!!!

Now tell me... why I got flu shot in the first place if I ended up getting flu ?

I still have my body ache, my muscles are hurting, my tummy hurts, nasty cough... ugh!!!

Aidan is over his sickness, Nadia is still having stomach ache and cough, but she doesn't have fever, I have to admit that Nadia is very strong. She still never got any antibiotic until now, and she is almost 4.

My cousin in UK posted the youtube video about obama, YES, WE CAN. It was pretty good. I have been leaning towards voting for him for the change in American point of view. He is young, and he is down to earth, and I like his policy.

I have a wonderful life, not perfect but it is perfect for me. I have not many friends as usual, but my friends usually last a life time, where ever I live, I make really nice friends. Not only nice, but really wonderful, amazing friends, I really can call them as my own family.
We have been living here in Michigan for almost 3 years, I made really nice friends and those people are so blessed. I just spent an amazing time with my friend, Sue and her son Brandon. Nadia and Brandon really play well together. I enjoyed my time chatting with Sue. Oh how much I love this woman. I feel so relax and comfortable talking about anything with her.
Yesterday, I also got a phone call from Melissa... Milla's mom, friend of Nadia. She is sending 2 tickets for Doodlebops show... We are so grateful.
Yes, those people, Maria, Melissa, Sue, Misty and Rodney, & Mehar are the most I really enjoyed their company and I call them family. Of course, I have some other Indonesian friends which we gather together in regular basis, and I love them all.
I am picky in making friends, but my friendships lasted. I am so glad with my life at this very moment, I hope it lasted until the day I die.

Maria... she is the nicest friend I have ever met in my life. Again, we met at Gymboree more than 2 years ago, ever since, we become friends, through our kids. Her husband happens to work at the same building as my husband. He is a dermatologist at the cancer center.. they are supernice and beautiful family. About less than a month ago, they moved to the bigger house.. I am saying, much bigger house... and sold their house overnight. Ammar and I talked about it and agree that they deserve everything, the house is their destiny, and we are so happy for them.
Today, we were invited to their house for brunch, and it was so nice to see the whole family again. We have been so busy and with my studying, I hardly go out of the house with the kids, especially Ana, babysitting the kids while I am studying at home.
The house is stunning, huge house, like 1.5 times bigger than our house, but not only that, they got a very good deal on this house. I love everything in their house, the previous owner seems to know what they want in a house. Huge windows in every aspect of the house, overlook the little pond and outside views, including neighbors. I cannot say enough nice things about their house.. it's a meticulously done!!! Bravo, Maria and Chris. We are so happy for them.

I am entertained to see their panic room, and the wine cellar room. It's unbelievable. Panic room, it reminds me of the movie by Jodie Foster.

Although we are done with the big house, we can pick up most of the attributes in their house to be built in a very miniature size of our future house if we ever moved again. Ammar and I decided that we don't want big house, small house, 3 bedroom house is just enough for us.

Again, I am so grateful to have them as our family friend (I consider Maria is a special sister for me here in Ann Arbor) and I love her family dearly. Her family is expanding, and everything good comes to their life, they deserve it big time.

Nadia had a wonderful time playing with her buddy, Luca.. She always says to me that if she grows up, she is going to get married with Luca. I don't mind.

Ana, the babysitter. The kids LOVE her.

Thursday, December 27, 2007

For the last week I just crave for anything spicy. It brought to our attention that maybe I am pregnant again. We are so content with what we have, our life, our family, when we got Aidan, we are fulfilled, no more kids for us. 2 kids for our 4 hands. Each of us taking care 1 child at a time, everyone is happy, everyone is pleased.
Until now, the period never comes, that is worrisome.
Finally I asked Ammar to buy me a test... Thank you God... We are not pregnant.!!
We are so relief and we are happy.

Monday, December 24, 2007

We are back home safe and sound, just in time to enjoy the christmas holiday.. well... we don't celebrate it, but the holiday seasons are so beautiful here, snow on the ground, decorations in town, lots of greeting cards, lots of phone calls from friends and neighbors, and of course, we can have our own time, getting slowed down on the holiday season until new year, usually everything is slowing down, except the stores, of course.
It has been a long time we didn't cuddle all together, lying down on the carpet, jumping on each other bodies, including Aidan. He loves the new game and having Ammar so relax lately, we just love the vacation, just our family, no work involved and no hospital services.

One thing comes in my mind.. I think I miss having a small house. It's not that I don't appreciate our big house, but having a small house is so much easier to manage and tidy up. Organizing is a breeze. I miss my small house in Massachusetts, and I miss my friends there, too. I miss my mom and my siblings.
I love my house now, but it takes more of our spare time to maintain it, while in a small house, you spend more time cuddling with children and family.

We talked about this, I think if we ever move again, I would love just to have a 3 bedroom townhouse in a gated community with all the luxury we can have just paying the monthly fees.
No more huge house, no more huge and hard to maintain 1.5 acres of yard, no more spending hours and weekends on house!

I also miss our housecleaner in Massachusetts. Still couldn't find the exact person who does the great job of my high demanding meticulously cleaning ... I love my house to be clean and spotless, with our house cleaner now.. she still not doing it... we are now debating between keeping our housecleaner team from the Company or keeping the newer girl we just hired. She is very thorough, but very very slow!

Can't complain enough, we now have a lovely baby sitter from Brazil, Ana. Nadia and Aidan adore her so much!

Happy Holidays, Happy Ied, Happy New Year 2008.

Arizona : Red Rock and Verde Canyon

We left to Sedona, Arizona for our yearly USA vacation. Just right in time of getting away from the snow storm which hit northeast when we left. Aren't we lucky ? Nadia's school had to close on Monday and at the same time we just enjoy very mild winter in Arizona.
It's our second time visiting Sedona, it's one of our favorite place to visit, we love the view and we love the weather. Red Rock is fantastic, Sari even think that it is even more breathtaking than the Grand Canyon. We decided to skip Grand Canyon this time, and enjoyed the scenery, had a laid back life, try to catch up the family time all together. Aidan is sick the whole vacation from flu vaccine he got the day before we left, made him so difficult to sleep, but he still a happy baby, smiling all the time. He likes to cruise everywhere, too.

These are what you call, Awesome singing. I just got the link from my friend, and it has completely disturbed my studying. Thanks, Nori (hehe) I ended up looking for more youtube videos about this awesome cappella group.

(I bet you your whole muscle in your body can't help not to dance along with them)

Enjoy and happy holidays everyone.
Finally, I have the nanny for Aidan and Nadia. Her name is Anna and she is a very nice girl. I have time to study now, at least 4 hours a day and I know they are in good hands.

Nadia is always excitedly happy when I told her it's Anna's day today. She loves playing with Anna and she learns some Portuguese words from Anna. Anna is from Brazil, she lives around and she has a clothing store and she alternate taking care of the store with her twin sister who happens to be Luca and Chiara's nanny (Luca is Nadia's best friend). So she only could come on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays every week. On Mondays and Wednesdays, Nadia stay home, not going to school, so she loves it when Anna comes. On Friday, I picked Nadia up earlier so she can play after school with Anna.

Sometimes I wish we live back in Indonesia where labor is so cheap, for the price we are paying the nanny now, I can hire 2 nannies who lives with you and do all the housework for you.

Life in America... it sounds easier than the real one. But, there is always a positive thing living in the States. Better health, better school, and better quality of life. I would not want to live in Jakarta, where I come from, just because I hate the traffic. I don't want to spend all my life in the traffic, hehehe.

Today, I took pictures for my neighbor. They are so sweet, I love them so much, friendly, and at same time : small world, David, works as a pharmacist at the same department where Ammar works. The wife, Katherine is an ER doctor, who left her job 2 years ago for her cute little daughter, Kyra, who is diagnosed with seizures.
I see them through my camera, they have beautiful house (like others who live in our subdivision), beautiful daughter (I love her dearly), 2 big dogs, as I took pictures of them, I see the love, the room filled with love, love to their daughter. Her developments are delayed because of her seizures, but thanks God, instead of 6-8 seizures a month, she has not having 1 seizures for the last 6 month. God is gracious.
I also took pictures of Kyra to celebrate her 2nd birthday in her room. Her room felt so happy! I love her room and again, I feel the love, so much love from both of her parents.
We downloaded the photos right away on David's computer and watched the slideshow. They were so happy with my work. They offer me the money compensation, which I didn't even think a second about taking it. No way, not in million years. I do photography for fun and the best reward is for them to love my work, that's all it counts.
It's also made me think how much I am so blessed, I have 2 beautiful kids, and I hope I will never take it for granted, ever. I don't know if I will be as good as mom does Katherine does for Kyra if any of my child has that disease. I feel so strong for her. Kyra's development is about the same as Aidan now. She can sit and crawl a bit, claps her hands, smiles, and makes sounds, like mama....  I remember Aidan got seizures after his 2 months vaccine. I felt my life was taken from me. Thanks God, it never happened again.

Sappy... I am a bit worry about Aidan, he has been having runny nose, he ran fever yesterday.. and we were so worry that he had his second otitis media (ear infection), or is it just because he is teething ? God knows. But today, I heard him grinding his teeth, and I wonder, as far as I know he never had the upper tooth yet, but then I felt it with my finger.. my boy just had his upper tooth, number 46 !!! Yeah!!!

I came home, hugging everyone, including Ammar... I am just so blessed for them. I hugged Nadia, carrying her around, played with her (I made her little house from a sheet and 2 chairs!!), and just pure hugging.

I can't imagine my life without them. I am just so worry now that Ammar will leave for Atlanta  due to the conference for 4 nights. I will miss him so dearly, and don't even mention Nadia.

Oh well, back to study!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, everyone.

I am so thankful for my lovely and wonderful family, extended family, and friends.
I also so thankful for the generous gifts God gives me.
I can't thank you enough. You are so gracious.

Thank you.

I am sorry for not posting for a while. Life is good, but has been very busy. I tried to study at night while the kids are sleeping, and I really feel this time, I got all the wonderful material to help me out with the study. My lovely husband, has been so supportive. We have been getting closer lately, every single one in our family, Nadia, Aidan, Ammar and I have been so close to each other, made us realize again, how lucky we are. We also thinking about getting an Au Pair to help me out with more time to study the boards.

I have been studying the live lectures I could play on my new machine. Gosh.. I love my NEW Apple Macbook!!!! Thanks so much, Amora!!!

Oh... can't help not posting how YUMMY the fruit punch Ammar made for us for the last 2 nights!!! YUM!!!!!

Sunday, October 28, 2007

When you feel so overwhelmed.. that's how you feel when you see mountains of dirty laundry in the laundry room. It's so much, I feel so lazy already to finish it.

One thing makes me excited! I am buying a new Apple Laptop replacing my beloved 3 year old Powerbook!!! Yay! With the intel duo processor, I could listen and watch those NBDE lectures. It will go right in my brain. Aim high!!! I will pass this licensing exam. Pray for me. Amin.

IT'S OFFICIAL!!! They moved out.

June stopped by to see Aidan (too bad he was still sleeping) and to bring the cable box which the cable company will pick up today. They planned to leave tomorrow but the moving company was so fast and they were 1 day ahead of time.

Here are the photos of June walking back to the house and their cars which I will be seen them for the last time in our neighborhood. I will miss Terry's cool red car, and that great blue truck, everytime I see it, it's always busy doing something. Yes, Terry is our neighborhood hero.

I will miss the friendly smiles and friendly hand waves everytime I pass by them.

Good luck, folks.

Three days in a row for hosting dinner, everything all by myself with 2 kids around. That was something I had never done in my life and to be honest, I feel so proud of myself.
I am trashed today.... still have to clean up all the dishes and pans from last night, cuddled with Aidan today, and of course, watching the 2 moving trucks which brought June and Terry's final stuff for Pennsylvania. I am sad, but at the same time, I am so happy for them, and I also so happy that we still could spend 3 nights in a row enjoying good food and nice conversation.
I love them dearly. They loved what I did and also because every single night, I invited other neighbors' family to join us in our small group. Every night, we had 6 adults. For the first time, we used up our formal dining room.

Again, I am so happy that I got to share some Indonesian dishes and Middle Eastern dishes for them, in addition of my own created recipes. They liked the dinners so much that June sent me a beautiful flower today.

June and Terry : "Thank you for everything, I loved the flower. You don't have to do that in your hectic time. Get rest, you have a long drive to do. We will miss you so much."

I am so trashed today. Last night, the kids didn't let us sleep and it's our last day to host dinner for our beloved neighbor. Nadia got a dental cleaning appointment, and an angel friend of mine, Sue offered me to take care of the kids while I am cooking today. Just got home and I have to go cook. I am a bit worry since it's my first time leaving the kids with a friend....
Thanks so much, Sue.

We just got back from Judy and Tom's house for the farewell party of our best neighbors, June and Terry. Almost all of our neighbors came to the party, I think only one family didn't come. It was really a nice gathering as I got a chance to talk to every single one, including the family who just bought the house, but not moved in yet.
I enjoyed very much looking at the gifts they got for them, there was a miniature truck that Terry has, which has words : "Terry, the FR's hero). Or a big banner with our subdivision logo and all our signatures in it, etc.

We still going to see them before they leave on Saturday, which is only 6 days left to go. The truck will be coming tomorrow, so I am hosting dinner for them on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, while the rest of the days until they moved, they are also invited to have dinner with other neighbors.
I am planning to invite one family at a time for a surprise, so we still have a small crowd of people in our casual dining time.

We are blessed to live in this wonderful friendly neighborhood. Thank you God for all the bliss in our life.

Lunch with Sisi and Dewi at Eastern Accent. Fun!!!

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Dear someone,

This is a note, just for you and for you only, and this will be the last. Life is too busy to keep getting in the same issue over and over again. Don't we have important stuff to do ?

I sent you friendly e-mails in the past. You kept giving messages of unfriendliness.

I just got a message of unfriendliness and I have to tell you again, I didn't send you any message, like I said the emails are LOST. It was an automatic updates from 'friendster' and it was sent beyond my knowledge. I apologize on behalf of "friendster".

I am too busy to do much fun stuff with my family and friends who love to be my friends. I am not going to beg you to be one if you don't want to. Peace! It's people's choice, we can always pick the friends you want to be and pick a fight whenever you would like, too. I respect your decision in any way you would like yourself to be.

I stand for this, the past is the past. Your significant other will receive a PACKAGE OF THE PAST. I am not going to keep THE PAST with me IN my present and future life.

You have a beautiful life, beautiful family. I am very happy for you. Again, I really mean it.

Life is like music, it depends on how you play it.

Thank you for still checking our blogspots, I know you do, but you are welcome to check them at anytime, now and in the future.

Best regards,
Sari

We had a girls night out again, without our spouses, and without our kids.

It started when Jocelyn said we needed to have craft night in our neighborhood newsletter, we ended up just chatting and gathered in euphoria. We decided that this will be an ongoing event, every 3rd Wednesdays every month.

This one just different, because June, our neighbor came the last time before she headed to Pennsylvania, moving to a new house for her brand spanking new insurance office. I am so happy for her but sad at the same time, losing one of the best neighbor, whose house just right in front of ours. I will miss Terry and his truck, mowing the lawn, I will miss seeing them together as cute couple. I will miss their friendly smiles all the time I see them. Nadia will miss them dearly, and again, I am so sad.

We gathered our best recipes from each of us, then put them in the recipe box, gave it to her for her to remind her about her wonderful life in our neighborhood and for her to remember each of us when she made those yummy food. She loved it so much.

There is other annoucements we had in that gathering, Trish who just got a baby girl, Audrey a month after Aidan was born, is pregnant, 3 month pregnant, we are so happy for her.
We also talk about the cookie exchange gathering on Christmas and helping single moms who don't work by collecting all stuff to be donated.

Me and June walked home back, enjoying the conversation and we just realized how beautiful the lighting of my house Ammar did from the other side of viewing. She asked me to take picture, I did, but I need tripod to have a decent photo of the lighting.

I left the house with mess in the kitchen. I was late cooking supper and was just ready before I left, again, Ammar told me not to worry, he would take care of it.

I came back home, he already had my dinner in the plate, and the kitchen was all neat and wiped. What a nice surprise considering he doesn't like to put dishes in the dishwasher, he usually just rinse and stack them in the sink. Thank you my dear love.

The time is almost here. At the end of the month, they are leaving. We will miss you so much, neighbor. Good luck with your new journey.

Sniff.... I am terribly sad that they are leaving.

Do the right thing. Again.

It's my second time donating my long hair for "LOCK OF LOVE" organization. This organization is awesome, they make the wig for children with cancer, or children with some diseases who lost their hair, full or partial.

It really felt so good when I did it the first time, to remember Nadia's first day at school 2 years ago, and I want to thank God again for giving me the bliss on earth, 2 healthy children and one lovely husband.

Ammar loves my hair long, but for this reason, he let me cut it short. It's amazing that it feels so good after I did it.

It is also handy, because ever since Aidan was born, he grabs hair so much, so most of the time, I put my hair in ponytail.
Now, he won't grab my hair and it will be less time to take care of my new short hair.

It's so funny now, like donating blood, it's addicting. I am planning to just grow my hair again, then donate it again, as much as I can.

The man who owns the store.
You want to know about this man.
I will tell you a story.

He was a good guy, seemed to want a family.
Got good things.... and then seemed to no want to share them
Then he started to lie.
Then he started to not call and come home on time.
Then he started to not care which was the worst.

Then he beat me once.
The next time I was mad and faught back and I lied, I told his parents that I hit him and that I was to blame for the violence, but I thought it would stop. The next time he professed his love to another man in front of me and when I aknowledged it, he got angry and thew us out. He took my daughter and myself to the garage and did the unthinkable...

He tried to strangle me, he punched me in the face, and threw me to the ground. He beat me unconscious and continued to beat me until the police arrived. I would not be alive today if they were not called. My daughter was screaming for him to stop and she is 5. She calls him Dad.

This person has FELONY charges with the intent to do GREAT bodyily harm just less than Murder plus three other charges. Should we let this go free? NO! This man tried to kill me, I am a tennis pro, you can't just kill me like that...a little kid was watching .. this man HAS to go down,.. He's going to kill SOMEONE!!! I will not let it be me... and I believe he will try to kill me again.

No more fish in the fish bowl.

We woke up for eating before fasting and found out that Nadia's goldfish was on the kitchen floor. DEAD! He must jumped out of the fish bowl at night. I feel a bit sad.... I just got so attached with it, since I am the one who feed and change the water every day.

After we ate, we heard Nadia called us from room. She got bad nosebleeds. Now, at 7 am, she is up, got dressed (because her pajamas were tainted with blood) and drawing.

Aw... health insurance.

I have been feeling blue today, not because that I have sad experiences, but thinking about people surround me. Living in America... everything is overpriced. You know why ? Because everything has liability, people sues right and left. Medical expenses are outrageous. I belong to the yahoogroups for parents in my city, they have discussions about heath insurance and what not. Some families elected not to have health insurance. They cannot afford it, it's so high priced!!!

I saw my medical bill when I was giving birth to Aidan. Just only for 2 nights stay, it cost the insurance more than $30,000
I saw Aidan's bill from his vaccination shots : average of $400 for a 15 minutes visit.
I saw Aidan's bill from his 4 hours observation for EEG : $800

M-Care sold the insurance to BCBS, and we have to decide which insurance we are going to get. There are HMO's and PPO's or even the Traditional Insurance. We are so grateful that we could afford the most expensive one and the best one, the PPO.. but how much it costs for a month ? It's $1,300 for the whole family

I feel so bad, if a family with an average salary of $2,500 a month, how could they afford it ? How do they afford to eat, paying rent, school, entertainments, clothing ?

Average of people here in the States have more than $15,000 credit card debt. A lot of people claimed bancruptcy because of the medical bills.

I see some of my friends have to move out from the house because they got laid off from the jobs. I see a mom and a child so sudden has to be in tight budgets because of the divorce.

I feel for those people, and my family is lucky that we don't have to deal with those issues, but I can not be proud of it, because my heart got hurt, thinking about them.

How you could help ?

I am too sad to know that Fantasy Forest officially closed. I really like that place. Nadia grew up playing there since we moved here. I know the owner and asked her, I have no idea why, she doesn't tell.
I love that place, the staff is so friendly, everytime we come there, they will call our name, says hi to Nadia as if we come to a friend's house. Nadia had her 3rd birthday party there, too.
I am sad that a wonderful family business is beaten up by a bigger unfriendly business which treat you just like a "customer", not family!!!! Life is not fair.

LAST MINUTES GETAWAY.

On Friday, I told Ammar at work that maybe we should spend time at Mackinaw Island again since it's so nice ..... sunny and 80 degree!!! Not like a usual fall weather.
We woke up in the morning, finally decided to go... packing a small luggage, stuffing Nadia's bag with Aidan's and Nadia's toys, and snacks and headed 5 hours driving North.

The view was awesome along the highway. Aidan was not too happy since we brought Ammar's car, the sun came right to his whole body.. he went so sweaty when we got him.

We just checked in the hotel we used to stay without any reservations, right on time because after that, the hotel was fully booked up. We enjoyed time swimming... because I was just thinking about kids, and packed the swimming attributes, I forgot my own, so I ended up taking pics.

We break our fast at our favorite family restaurant, we left so happy with full stomachs, even Nadia ate so much, and what's new, Aidan ate our food, too.

We stopped by the guest of the restaurant and she told us how much she adores the kids, well behaved in the restaurant (Aidan was eating, Nadia was busy drawing and singing)... and Nadia as usual, talking so friendly with her and another waitress who joined us in the conversation.

God bless, it's not the first time we got some visitors in our table at the restaurant... We made so many strangers whom we ended up chatting with.

Pictures will come soon.

It's pretty sad news for 2 nights in the row.

One, a friend of Amora's father is in hospice. He lost weight from 250 to 160 and he is not doing well.
Last night, we also heard a message from his friend, sounded in panic, asking us to call back, before he called, he called again and told him that his 6 year old son just diagnosed with acute leukemia.
In the middle of talking to him, he kept calling my name, I finally found out that he was really in shock hearing the news, we kept talking about it until this morning, what happened if one of our children so sudden got sick ? This boy was completely healthy, until few days ago, he started to develop the bruises and nosebleeds.
It is a very heartbroken disease that a child has to go through the millions medication, chemotherapy, being weak and sick, lost the hair, etc, then will be under remission, and it might come back again, at least for 5 years.

Our heart goes to the whole family, we felt so lucky that our family is very healthy, Nadia didn't even have a dose of antibiotic, but knock the wood thing could happen with her and Aidan. God, please protect all of us from any kind of diseases, and thank you for giving us all your blessings.

You owe me big time, Dear!

Ammar played tennis after work, so Nadia, Aidan, and me went to the mosque... gosh, it's 10 more days. Every single day I feel so hungry now.. bummer.. because I am still nursing Aidan, I feel so hungry by 2 pm... but hey.. it's part of the good thing to do. It's holy month, and you will get lots of rewards for fasting. Nadia finally get it that we cannot eat during the day, when it's dark, then mommy and daddy will be able to eat and drink.

On the way back home, it's 9.10 pm. Everyone is tired, I heard my cell was ringing continuously. I left it in the trunk, inside the diaper bag. I stopped on Main street, it's just 5 minutes away from home. It was Ammar, he doesn't usually call me like million times when I don't pick up.

I went out, get the phone, and called him right away and said (teasingly) :"Hey, you don't have to call me million times, today babe!!!).

Ammar told me he got locked out. He put his tennis bag inside the trunk, he forgot to get the car key he put outside the bag....

I had to drive another 20 minutes away from home, to pick him up and give him the spare key (we have our key in each of the car for this kind of situation). Nadia got excited that she is saving her daddy. We arrived at U of M Varsity tennis, I asked him to give me $75 for the cost of taxi if he were going home by taxi.. heheheh...
Of course, he didn't take it seriously.

Nadia gleefully jumped out, hugging her daddy and moved to his car..

We got home at 10.10 pm. It's a late night for all of us.

Amora, you just can't live without me, can you ? :p

http://www.datadyne.org, NOT .com

This is an awesome webpage. A friend of mine, Dr. Joel Selanikio, he is a computer engineer but he went to medical school after working at Chase Manhattan Bank. Upon finishing with his pediatric specialty, he interested in epidemiology. His heart goes for helping people on the other side of the world, and he joined UN. He did lots of volunteer works, including the 2005 tsunami in Sumatera. He developed a software which you can download to the palm pilot to help out in epidemiology, called epysurveyor.

Just want to share this great work.

Updated :

A while back, I changed Aidan's blogspot's name to www.aidanomar.blogspot.com. Just click on the left top corner under LINKS WORTH TO CLICK for the updated Aidan's blog.

I am excitedly announce that Nadia will be a horse on the Halloween Day. Yay. I think I am just way more too excited than her. I also get her a huge wooden barn with lots of miniature horses for her Eid's celebration gift.

For Aidan, he reached the milestone of sliding backwards in crawling position. He is now trying to move forward, but right now just wobbling around.

Ammar has been happy working with his new Nurse Practitioner. Since he got her, he slowly comes home earlier, at least he will be home before 7 pm

For Sari, I am excited to have a girls night out again with my most favourite friend, Maria, Luca and Chiara's mom. Too bad it had to be cancelled because Ammar had a tennis match and forgot about it. We are rescheduling it for next week.

TIRAMISU RECIPE

I love Tiramisu, but only once I tried the awesome tiramisu from one of the restaurant in Boston, in 1996, ever since I tasted so many tiramisu which was not so great according to my memory of "good Tiramisu", so I created this Recipe after searching for some recipes I found and I changed it here and there, made it, tasted it, after 3 attempts, finally I found the Ultimate Tiramisu Recipe. This recipe has been travelled all over the place thanks to Anna.. hahahha.... so I decided to just put it on the blog so everyone, especially the Tiramisu lover can make your own and enjoy it.

I called her yesterday, it has been soooo long that I haven't made the tiramise, the recipe was in my head, but then I lost it just like my computer, losing memory... (effect of too busy with kids ? hahaha), so I asked her for the recipe.

It's so funny to open up my e-mail this morning and found my own e-mail I sent for Anna my friend in 2003 for the Tiramisu Recipe she asked.

Enjoy!

Hey Anna,

Ini resepnya.

Tiramisu

1 oz of Mascarpone cheese (better with the tiramisu style mascarpone cheese)
2 package lady finger
1/3 cup granulated sugar + 1 spoonful of sugar
1 shot/cup expresso coffee, let it cool down before you start.
2 eggs.
cocoa powder unsweetened
3 spoons of Kahlua (optional)

How :
separate the eggs, white and yellow eggs in separate bowl. (the container of the white eggs is much smaller than the container of the yellow eggs)

Put 1 spoonful of sugar on the white eggs, and 1/3 cups of sugar on the yellow eggs.

Beat white eggs with mixer until stiff.

Beat yellow eggs until the color is pale yellow. Put the mascarpone cheese, beat slowly with the lowest speed until it blends.

Put white eggs on the yellow eggs mixture and mix slowly and carefully with spatula until it blends

Prepare for the pan. 9x9 inch pan.

1. Dip the ladyfinger in the expresso (note , just let the bottom part of the lady finger wet, not the whole ladyfinger is dipped.
2. Put it on the first layer on the pan.
3. Put 1/2 of the mixture ton the top of the ladyfinger layer.
4. sprinkle with cocoa powder evenly.
5. Do 1-4

PS. You can double the ingredients and just use the common sense of dividing ingredients (lady finger and the mixture) when doing the layers.

You can decorate it with shaved white chocolate for entertaining purpose.

Enjoy.

LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE IT AFTER TRYING THIS ULTIMATE RECIPE.

Phew!!! Sad, happy at the same time.

It started on Thursday morning, after updating the blogspots of the kids, I shutted down my powerbook macintosh. Then I opened up later on, there was really bad sound coming from the machine!!! My apple doesn't open... big time failure!!! It stopped working. Nada!!!

I was frantic. My apple is like my life... I called the Apple care, thanks God I bought the extended warranty, and it is still under warranty until December...

They tried to solve the problem over the phone. Nothing, just a white screen with Apple sign on it.. still making scary noises (I know, halloween is coming, but this is more scary for me). I just put some pictures and I haven't backed up my computer yet!!!!!

They made me an appointment to visit the apple store in Ann Arbor, I had to do it on Friday because Nadia was not at school, so we had fun on Thursday with Aidan. I was so sad, the whole time. I tried to convince Ammar to get me a new one.. he said ... no... sigh!!!! I said, just get me the cheap one, he said no because he doesn't want to buy the lower end of apple... just wait another year.. actually it's his turn to have the new laptop.. hahaha... Okay.. so I waited.

I visited the mall with Aidan and leave my Apple there. I got a phone call at night, saying that they changed the optical drive, but the hard drive failed to connect, means they wanted to change the hard drive, too. It MEANS : I WILL LOSE ALL MY DATAS!!! I asked them if they can save it to my LACIE hard drive.. they said the hard drive was a complete failure... Oh what can you do.. I asked them to do it.

I picked up my computer today with Nadia. Had fun at the mall and stopped by at Milla's house... I got a brand new computer, new hard drive, new optical drive, and the most fun thing : They put the newest software and operating system which if I buy the upgrade will cost me $300. This time, I love the extended warranty. It worths every penny.

Now, I got the newest Mac OS X Tiger, with the newest iLife 06... YAY!!!!

Neigbors.... there is nothing like living in the really nice neighborhood. We like our neighbors, the whole subdivision are the nicest people I have met/live with.

We had the first girls supposedly craft night, we ended up just chatting, eating and had a blast.

I brought my camera with me, having so much fun chatting, I forgot to take pictures.

We had so much fun that we are planning to do it every 3rd wednesdays a month.

One thing still make me sad : Our neighbors, Terry and June who live in front of our house are leaving soon. June will have her own insurance agency office in Pennsylvania, and we are soooo sad that they are living. Terry is like the lawn and handyman guru in our neighborhood, anything you asked, he will help you. I am still remembering that he brought the ladder to Nadia's room for me to paint on when I was 8 months pregnant.
June is just a sweetheart. I love both of them dearly and very sad knowing that they are leaving.
My Nadia LOVES them, too.
Ammar will lose his tennis partner.

We had to attend a meeting in Novi and we need someone to babysit the kids during the time. Thankfully, we got our best helper, Auntie Lisa and Uncle Bill who were willing to drive to meet us there and took the kids while we were at the meeting.
One the way there, Nadia vomited big time, she was so upset that all her clothes are soaking wet with her apple juice mixed with oreos, etc... Something wrong! Nadia had the drink 2 hours before and she didn't digest it. We stopped at someone's house, clean her up, wiped her up, thanks God, I still bring a sweater, she changed her blouse with sweater but her jeans are all soaked, the car seat, too. I couldn't stand not to take picture of her getting upset because she was a mess.
Being clean all the time made her a very clean girl. She wanted to get a bath right away.
We ended up sending the girl to Uncle Bill and Auntie Lisa, asking them to get new pants and new underwear at the mall. Aidan kept watching us from the car, his look as if he was asking : "What the heck is going on there ?"
We met up again at the mall, Nadia slept on the way home, we had a good talk with lisa and Bill, while Ammar hold on Aidan who was not sleeping.
Nadia got all upset when she woke up, Uncle Bill and Auntie Lisa weren't here. How she loves both of them.
Special note for Auntie Lisa and Uncle Bill : "Many many thanks for both of you. I am glad you both like the black forest parfait I made for you."

Ann Arbor : FYI about what you can get in Ann Arbor.

Ann Arborites love good food. For beautifully displayed, fresh-tasting produce, professional and amateur chefs look to resources like the Ann Arbor Farmers’ Market and, next door in Kerrytown Market & Shops, Sparrow Produce Market; Fresh Seasons Market, on West Liberty; and the Produce Station, on South State. Also in Kerrytown, Sparrow’s companion butcher shop, Sparrow Meat Market, stocks ready-to-cook stuffed flank steaks, chicken breasts, and pork loins, while Monahan’s Seafood Market sells homemade chowder and a tempting variety of fresh fish, and Tracklements Smokery sells its own house-smoked fish. On Miller, the anonymous-looking Knight’s Market (marked only by a chess knight) supplies the public and many of Ann Arbor’s restaurants with excellent beef.

Several neighborhood grocers offer personable alternatives to the area’s big chain supermarkets, including campus grocer White Market, on William. Stadium Market and Deli, with a huge liquor and wine selection, sells specialty foods and makes its own salads and sandwiches, including gluten-free pizza. On Jefferson in the Old West Side, Jefferson Market, a tiny, beautifully restored old-fashioned grocery, is a neighborhood hangout and a resource for imaginative prepared dinners.

Ann Arbor’s thriving international communities support a wealth of terrific ethnic groceries that offer a taste of distant lands. Middle Eastern goods can be found at Aladdin’s Market, on Packard; Mediterranean Market, on Ellsworth; and Jerusalem International Market, on Broadway. Foods of the Far East are featured at China Merchandise, in Plymouth Road Mall; Great Land Supermarket, on Carpenter; Lucky Market, in the Courtyard Shops; Lucky Heng Market, on West Liberty; Tsai Grocery, in the Village Centre; Makkara, on Packard; and Manna, on Broadway. Chez Pierre, at Briarwood, is a locally owned boutique featuring French specialty foods. Nabalee Produce, on Packard, has halal as well as Latin American groceries, and Brazamerica, in South Main Market, offers Brazilian goods. Indian foods are found in Foods of India, on Broadway; Bombay Grocers, on Packard; and Nilgiris Import Goods, on Carpenter. At Zingerman’s, on Detroit Street, a dazzling array of imported specialty foods lines the walls of an award-winning Jewish-style deli. Hiller’s Market in Arborland, part of a small Detroit-based chain, is an American-style grocery store that specializes in kosher meats, plus delicacies like blood pudding and treacle tarts imported from the British Isles.

Among the area’s many convenience stores, a few go beyond the usual chips-and-beer inventory. Village Corner, on South University, is known for its immense selection of wines; Main Street Party Shoppe, on North Main at Ann, has an impressive wine cellar; Morgan & York, on Packard, has an intelligent selection of fine wines and ales, as well as a host of imported specialty foods; and A & L Wine Castle, on Stadium, packs an amazing range of libations inside its regally funky store. Bello Vino, on Plymouth, offers produce, specialty grocery items, and fine wines at good prices. Its neighbor, the Wine Seller, has a pithier but no less interesting selection. In Kerrytown, Everyday Wines specializes in little-known vintages at affordable prices, and its staffers display an uncanny ability to pair wine with food. Wine Etc., in Scio Town Center, boasts an extensive wine and beer selection as well as gourmet treats and wine accessories.

For organic and natural foods and products, health-conscious shoppers head for Arbor Farms, in Boulevard Plaza on West Stadium; Whole Foods Market, on Washtenaw; and the People’s Food Co-op, on Fourth Avenue. Trader Joe’s, in Lamp Post Plaza, offers a mix of natural foods, affordably priced gourmet foods, ethnic items, and a large selection of beers and wines, including the chain’s renowned “three-buck Chuck,” Charles Shaw wines that retail for $2.99 a bottle.

Chocoholics frequent Main Street’s Zenaida Chocolate Lounge and, one block north, the Chocolate Cafe; Washington Street’s Schakolad Chocolate Factory for truffles, creams, and chocolate-covered nuts and fruit; and Kilwin’s, on Liberty, which sells gourmet chocolates and a cheerful assortment of exotically flavored jelly beans, ice cream, and homemade fudge. On Huron, Say Cheese specializes in enormous, rich cheesecakes; its sister store, Deda’s Bakery, deals in artfully decorated sugar cookies as well as custom cakes. Big City Small World Bakery, on Spring Street at Miller, features muffins, scones, and decadent gourmet ding dongs (including vegan versions). At Briarwood, Mac & Oliver’s Sweet Tooth is an old-fashioned candy store showcasing the family’s homemade peanut-butter- and chocolate-covered caramel corn. Porter’s Premium Popcorn, in Nickels Arcade, offers delightfully weird flavors like barbecue and piƱa colada. On South University, Sweet U sells M&Ms by the pound as well as flavored nuts, hard candy, caramel corn, and cotton candy.

Zingerman’s Bakeshop, on Plaza Drive off South State, offers scones, enormous brownies, and a splendid section of aromatic, freshly baked breads. Nearby, Zingerman’s Creamery sells fresh artisanal cheeses made with milk from area dairy farms.

H.E.L.P, A Mantra for Every day lives.

I seek your forgiveness for all the times :
* I talked when I should have listened
* Got angry when I should have been patient
* Acted when I should have waited
* Feared when I should have been delighted
* Scolded when I should have encouraged
* Criticized when I should have complimented
* Said no when I should have said yes

Something very very disturbing when we got home and found a message from my dear friend. She is one of my best friends I have known for almost the whole time since we moved to Michigan. We don't talk to much about her husband and her family, but we got along really well. Nadia plays with her daughter, religiously. Nuff said. Life has been very overwhelming since we got back, unpacking 5 big luggages, got really bad bugs which made you feel so blue for the first 5 days of us being home (just today I feel so much better and went outside the house). I talked to her finally on the phone but couldn't talk to much because Aidan asked to be nursed. She usually is very good with emails, but she also got so overwhelmed with emails and phone calls.

I feel so sick thinking what had happened with her and her daughter. I love her dearly and I was angry and mad knowing that this thing happened 2 days after we left and I was not there for her when she needed help. The whole thing is still a mistery, thanks to Sue, I found her post about what her feeling about this whole darn thing. I felt the same thing, and I should post it out in my own blog to tell my dear friend, how much I think about her and how much I wish I could made her feel like brand new, without any scars in her heart, which is impossible.

Her husband beat her up in the garage in front of her daughter, unconcious and bleeding. One thing is unacceptable, I really can't stand men who beat up women!

Here is Sue's post (PS : Sue, I hope it is okay to post your feeling in my blog)
"I met with a friend who was struggling in her relationship with her husband–we commiserated about the pain of the relationship and the problems therein, and she confronted him about his destructive behaviour a few days later. Then I got a note from her that he had thrown her out, followed her and her daughter out to the parking garage of their building, and beat the crap out of her. I was so scared for her; her daughter’s screams are what got people to call the police and ultimately got my friend’s attacker (at this point, it’s hard to recognize that he had a formal place in her life with a title for him) to stop beating her. She had bruises and got a host of stitches and he was carted off to jail. He was charged with felony assault (unheard of in domestic violence situations), and she is now safely away from him. The really weird thing is that I had this inkling in my heart when we met together that I should ask her if he had ever tried to hurt her. But I second-guessed myself and decided against the question; looking at her and seeing her confidence, physical strength (she’s a tennis pro), and agility, I read her as never putting up with that sort of crap. I was wrong. And honestly, I don’t think I’ll doubt my intuition again. It’s normally correct, and I ignored it. I don’t think that I could have prevented her attack if I’d asked, but it definitely would have given me fodder for discussion and prayer.

Regardless, about 15 people showed up at her apartment this week and packed her up and moved her out. I was so glad that so many (women and men) showed up and packed, hoisted, lifted, schlepped, and unloaded things for her. It was physically tiring, for sure–working in a hot apartment with all that emotion and all those people is bound to wear you out. But it was emotionally draining as well, and I didn’t expect that. I found myself just wanting to sit down and cry when it was all over. I had a friend who volunteered to watch Brendan for me, and I didn’t really have the opportunity to “let down” when the moving was done and I found myself crying as I fell asleep that night. Being hot and tired is one thing, but facing the destruction of a relationship through something as destructive as violence and pornography (the reason their relationship was our point of discussion intially) and knowing what her daughter experienced and the fear she was living with hit me full-force that night."

We came back, found some weird stuff around the house. The grass gor fried, we turned off the sprinkle system because it was raining for 3 days when we left, for some reason, the neighbor forgot to turn on the sprinkle system, but they trimmed the grass nicely. We found a weird dead grass track, and found out it was moles digging under the grass, making tunnels. We also found at least 9 clusters of paper wasps on our sidings and roof. We called Insectech and they came right awaay to spray them off.

Nadia's goldfish was safe back home, thanks to our neighbor's care, Andrea. It looks healthy and she came to invite us for dinner, that was really thoughtful of her. Yes, we really need it, not to cook dinner on our first day back home... The dinner was really nice, we came home right away because everyone had the jetlag....especially Nadia and Aidan.

I got the bugs, we assumed we got it from Arfan, Ammar's brother who lives in Germany, then he passed it to Aidan, then to Ammar, and the last one, it's me. I got so sick 4 hours after we arrived home, and just feel so much better now, despites of the retaining terrible headache afterwards.

We talked about how much we love our house, especially our bed! We missed it so much, and we are so blessed to have wonderful family. I love my family sooooo much!

Ammar is going back to work tomorrow.. the kids and I will miss him dearly. Once he starts working, we will hardly see him around.

Issam and his family, his wife Sawsan, his children (biggest to smallest), Maleka, Noer, and Adnan

Our family, Ammar, Sari, Nadia, and Aidan

Mama and her kids (not in million years they reunite at the same time!), oldest to youngest, Issam, Ammar, Arfan, and Rim. (Baba, Ammar's dad, decided not to take pictures with us due to the pajama he was wearing and he just got his eye surgery on his right eye.. not to feel good about it)

The whole Zoubi Family.

It was quite an entertainment to take pictures of all of us. I love his family. He came from a wonderful one, compare to most of Syrian people that I know of or met.
We are leaving today. After packing and everything, we decided to take naps because our flight is at 11 pm, then we have to wait 2.5 hours in Jordan, we are leaving to Detroit at 2.30 am.
Aidan has been so active, he fell off the bed. Fortunately he was okay.

We all had a great time in Damascus, the main house that Ammar's parents have. The view from their balcony is so nice. We also stayed at the mountain house (Bludan) for 2 nights with Issam's family (Ammar's brother who lives in Kuwait). I decided not to go to the house they own on the seaside, it is too hot here even in Damascus, the temperature is about 44 centigrade in the day and down to 30 centigrade at night. Everything is night time, they naps at 3 - 7 pm, then live started after, even we sleeps at 12 midnight every night, have dinner at 10 pm. We took Nadia to the playground at 9.30 pm, lots of kids play there, too.

I had wonderful time playing and meeting Ammar's brothers and his family. Arfan, Ammar's brother who lives in Germany came after, I like him the most. Nadia thinks he is the best uncle.

Vacation is over, and we are ready to go back to the States.

Happy 5th Anniversary!!!

We celebrated it in Damascus. We got the luxury of having the family to baby sit the 2 kids. Aidan slept the whole time we were out, and Nadia's grandma and aunt took her to the playground. For the first time, we didn't think so much about the kids. We did it last year and the whole time, we just couldn't enjoy our dinner, thinking about our kid.

Ammar surprised me 2 times by buying me a necklace and I happened to choose it myself, hm...sorry he still have to give me jewelry on the top of the HD camcoder...haha... then he took me to Four Seasons Damascus and we had a romantic dinner on the deck of Four Season, and Italian restaurant (God, how much I missed a non Syrian food.. haha) called Il Circo. Wonderful meal, and wonderful time. Another surprised, Ammar arranged to have a cake with our names on it.

We stroll home, nice walk, holding hands, watching people around, and got home in 10 minutes. Nadia had a wonderful time with her grandma and Aunt, and we also had a great time.
Nadia : "Mommy and Daddy, are you married again ?"
